Become A Curler, Course C (Thursdays) – FULL
Want to develop curling as a new hobby? Excellent! Our new four-part Become A Curler course will take you from a complete beginner to an enthusiastic new curler, after which you will be keen to join both our New Stones beginner club to further develop your confidence and some of the 60+ clubs based here to play real games. In recent years our most ambitious beginners have gone on to compete in national competitions, play friendlies against foreign clubs, and win a District Medal against an established club! Even if you just take up curling as a casual new hobby, you might find yourself enjoying a game alongside some of our international athletes and former European/World Champions. Curling is a welcoming and very friendly sport, suitable for everyone aged 8 to over 80, so start your curling journey here!
Day 1 of our four-part Become A Curler course will cover the very basics to get you familiar with how to play. Days 2 and 3 will develop your technique and understanding of the strategy/rules/etiquette, and Day 4 will recap everything before finishing with gameplay to prove you now know how to curl. At this point you should be feeling knowledgeable and confident, ready to dive into real club curling. We will aim for clubs to introduce themselves and help you link up with other beginners so that you can easily continue in the sport beyond this, and we offer further coaching opportunities too.
Note: Participants must bring a spare pair of spotlessly-clean rubber-soled trainers for wearing on the ice (carry them during your travels to the rink). We recommend wearing layers of warm loose clothing, and perhaps a hat/gloves. You are asked to arrive upstairs at the advertised start time, when coaches will introduce everyone and begin their off-ice lessons. 30 minutes later your on-ice session will begin, lasting about 1h50, although it could take an extra 15 minutes to finish your game and return equipment. Afterwards head back upstairs for a 15 minute summary with the coaches and maybe enjoy a post-game drink or meal with fellow participants.

Finding Curl Edinburgh and the meeting point
Located at EH12 5XN (near Murrayfield Stadium), Curl Edinburgh is the big grey building beside the skating rink’s white and red Art Deco building. Our entrance is the single glass door at the far right side of the skating rink’s frontage.
From our single glass entrance, head through the grey corridor until you reach the double doors and staircase. Through these doors is our curling rink with changing room and toilets, but if you head upstairs and turn right at the top you’ll come to our modern clubrooms with a bar/kitchen, accessible toilet, and viewing gallery to watch the curling. The meeting point for coaching courses like this is usually a big table at the far end of the clubrooms, beside the trophy cabinet.
